CBC CURRICULLUM

Posted on October 27, 2021 By Neverland School No Comments on CBC CURRICULLUM

CBC Curriculum meaning Competency-Base Curriculum. The CBC is designed to emphasize the significance of developing skills and knowledge and also applying those competencies to real life situations. This Education system was designed by Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and was launched in 2017 by Ministry of Education.

Competency-Based Curriculum applies a 2-6-6-3 system and its divided into three levels, namely:

Early Years Education

Pre- Primary. It has two levels, (Pre-primary 1 & 2) abbreviated as PP1 & PP2.

Middle School Education

  • Lower primary 3 years, that is Grade 1-3. The learners from PP2 will join lower primary in Grade 1 at about 6 years of age and spend 3 years in this part before exiting to middle school at the end of Grade 3.
  • Upper primary 3 years, that is Grade 4-6. Here learners are exposed to a broad curriculum and given an opportunity for exploration and experimentation.

Senior School

  • Lower Secondary 3 years, that is Grade 7-9. This level will expose the learner to a broad-based curriculum to enable them to explore their own abilities, personality and potential as a basis for choosing subjects according to career paths of interest at the senior school. Learners will also undergo a rigorous career guidance programmed and be exposed to the related subjects to enable them to make informed choices as they transit to senior school.
  • Senior school 3 years, that is Grade 10-12. This will mark the end of Basic Education. The learner entering this level shall have had opportunities at lower secondary to explore their own potential, interests and personality and is therefore ready to begin specialization in a career path of choice. The specialization entails choosing to pursue studies in one of the three pathways available in senior school. He or she can choose the Arts and Sports Science, Social Sciences or Science Technical Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) pathway.

Higher Education 3 years. Here learning takes place in Universities and further education colleges and normally includes undergraduate and post graduates.
